Minnie had a dance competition in St. George. We decided to take the whole family along. On the way home we stopped at Cove Fort.
It was well worth the trip and we enjoyed the free guided tour and all the little tidbits that were shared.
Such as the doors to the fort were first filled with sand. This was to help protect against Indian Attacks. This made the doors very heavy. Later they were drained and then filled with cotton. Today the reconstructed original doors are hollow.
The original trees are so old that they have a hollow sound.
Male guests who stayed her could rent 1/2 of a bed.
Imagine sleeping two grown men on a bed that small.
Toothbrushes were made from bones.
We all agreed we would much prefer today's toothbrushes.
Anybody up for a game?
These original Dominoes, are also made out of bone.
But she would leave the top hat wearing to the men.
This room was where Brigham Young would stay when he came to visit. He, of course, would wear a top hat. Even had a top hot box (up on the dresser).
We had great tour guides with lots of stories to tell. Such as the meaning of Pop Goes the Weasel as we looked into this room.
They gave each one of the kids a toy and got a kick out of how fast Bud Boy mastered doing his. He has fun finding all sorts of ways to keep his going; like with his feet or wrists.
Cove Fort was well worth the stop and brought a smile to all our weary travelers' faces.
We learned that Cove Fort Days are August 2 & 3. If you're in that neck of the woods might be a fun stop for you as well.
