Sleep

After writing yesterdays post the thing my brain kept coming back to was 5 am feeding. I kept wondering if by putting this does it imply that Princess sleeps until then? Should I go change that? But I kept away for my 15 minutes were up. It's going to take some time to be able to train myself. But I have found a flip side. Just knowing I can blog every day it has opened my mind to a flood of ideas.

Anyway back to 5 am. Princess doesn't sleep until then (hopefully one day). That's just the time she decided to stay awake, yesterday, so my day started extra early. Princess currently goes to bed about 9. She then cries out about every hour and will go back to sleep with her pacifier or if we swaddle her up and rock for a few minutes. Swaddling at this age is a first for my kids. But it works for her. She then nurses between 11-12pm and then sleeps for about 2 or three hours stretches until morning which is usually between 6 and 6:30. Sometimes she nurses and goes right back to sleep and others it takes awhile of rocking. Occasionally she will go for a four or five hour stretch. I love those nights!

I've had some suggest sleep training. I have never been good with this. I tried it with my first. It was torture! I wasn't sleeping through the crying (duh) and awake more then if I just did the usual nurse/rock. We did finally get her sleeping better and then she got sick, started teething and up again. Back to square one and I had had it with the sleep training. I preferred to do what worked for me and not just because some book said I should have a baby sleeping through the night.

While I don't enjoy the lack of sleep. If it's one thing I have learned after five kids. They all eventually learn to sleep through the night. Someday Princess will too. For now I just get a kick out of what my husband said the other day,

Sleep?
What is this thing you speak of?
I've heard some people actually enjoy it.

Fifteen Minutes

My days are soooo full lately. I love blogging but feel like lately I can't allow myself this luxury. There are so many others things I need to get done. I keep thinking  I'll just complete "these tasks" then I can give myself the time to blog. This is not working and I miss this creative outlet. Plus, I'm not recording the events of our lives.

This morning while up feeding the baby (at 5 am) I thought: 15 minutes. I can find that each day. Hey that's kind of how I live my life right now with a baby. Fifteen minutes before she's ready for something else. Move to a different room/or task, be picked up after down time, nurse, even the length of many of her naps. Ugh!

Why not blog? I'll set a timer, write and be done when it goes off. I figured I have to post that same day as well or else I'll constantly stew over what's in the draft- Did I say that right? Did I truly express my thoughts? I know I will keep coming back to fix something. Then I'll be back to why I haven't allowed myself to blog. It takes too much time from my day. It's amazing how you can blow a whole afternoon on the computer if you're not careful. So.... my post may not be the most organized. There's a good chance they'll have grammar errors. They probably won't be chock full of pictures or even the greatest insights but it's something.

15 minutes. Gotta go!

Cookie

I have always loved to make snickerdoodles with my kids. Their favorite part is getting to roll the dough in the cinnamon and sugar. I just give each one a small bowl of the cinnamon sugar mixture. After I form the dough into balls they swirl the balls (one at a time) around in their bowls and place on parchment line cookie sheets.

Awhile ago my sister blogged about lemon cookies. I think they have become a new favorite! Same concept only swirling around in sugar.

Every once in awhile, for my chocolate loving husband, we also make these.

Chocolate Crinkles

3/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 ounces mini semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup confectioners' sugar

In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter, cocoa powder, and sugar. Whisk in the eggs and vanilla extract. In a medium-size bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Use a large spoon to slowly add the dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture. Stir in the chips. Refrigerate the dough for 2 hours.

Heat the oven to 350. Form the dough into 1-inch balls, then roll them in confectioners' sugar. Bake the cookies on an ungreased (or lined with parchment paper) baking sheet for 10 minutes. Set the baking sheet on a wire rack for 5 minutes, then lightly dust the cookies with the remaining confectioners' sugar. Transfer the cookies directly onto the rack to cool thoroughly. Makes 4 dozen.
